1997 - Saab 9-5 Sedan world premiere, LPT gasoline engines only
1998 - 9-5 SportCombi, 3.0 V6t engine introduced
1999 - Aero version with 2.3 TS engine
2001 - first facelift, V6t engine discontinued, 2.3t and 2.3 TS upgraded, new turbodiesel engines 2.2 TiD and 3.0 V6 TiD
2005 - second facelift, radically changed front end, new 1.9 TiD engine instead, 2.0t and 2.3t also as BioPower (run on gasoline or E85), 2.3 TS upgraded, 2.2 TiD and 3.0 V6 TiD discontinued
